Melbourne Tram at Carlton Street, Carlton.

~ Father, Mother, sister Anne and I went to Melboune for 5 days. ~

Father, Mother, Anne and I left Newcastle. N.S.W. to drive to Victoria on Thursday afternoon. We drove along the Hume Highway, to Mittagong RSL. where we had our dinner with tea or coffee. Each one of us enjoyed our meal. Then, off we went on our way stopping to get petrol and supper; we stopped at Holbrook where the H.M.A.S. Ottaway has its final home. The submarine can be seen in the park. It was raining and it was better not to get wet. This stopped us from looking closely at the submarine.

We continued along the Hume Highway, toward Melbourne.

At the last petrol stop wet met some of the truck drivers who had past us on the road and "George" who owned the last big service station. He made us very welcome, sat us down at a table and gave us hot coffee and tea.

We said thank you. He was a very kind man. After leaving the service station we went to try and find our unit in North Carlton Driving around for 90 minutes, there it was in front of us at last. The time was 4:00am Father, Anne and I had a sleep, but, not mother. She told me no, I want to make sure you are safe. I will rest later. That's mum. "How about breakfast? Park the car at the units and off we go". All of us went to the Casino for breakfast but no breakfast until 11:00am, We came back to our accommdation and mum cooked breakfast for us. Afterwards we went to the "Victoria Markets", Mother bought lovely fresh meat fruit and vegetables for all of us to eat. She was happy and mum told me everyting was low cost. This is good.

We did not go into the other parts of the market as we were all tired. A short tram ride and we were back where we were staying. Mother cooked a nice meal for us and so to bed! Friday was over and a good hot bath. Good night.

Saturday, 7th August.

After a good breakfast we all set out for a tram ride to South Melbourne Beach, clean and cold winds and lovely clear water. I don't think the beaches are as good as ours, but they are nice white sandy beaches at South Melbourne and St Kilda beach. There was a footpath for walking and a path for roller blades, skate boards and bicycles. We then went to Southbank to catch a St Kilda Beach tram. At St Kilda Beach, there was three piers for boats and a Luna Park, lots of ships, people eating and talking at the footpath tables. We then went back and walked around Melbourne. The Melbourne Central Station Plaza has many restaurants and take-away foods. and lots different shops, At 4:30pm we went home and mother cooked our dinner. That was Saturday over.

Sunday, 8th August,

Hurry and pack up, We are to meet My friend Roger and go to PC User Group Club, Dorcas St, South Melbourne, for the "Atari Computer" meeting. Peter's table was the best at the trash and treasure Atari computers and softwares sale Mother and I sold some of my computer things. The morning went very fast. It was 1:00pm Time to set off home. The rain was coming the clouds were very heavy. Then down it came! father thought it would be very dangerous to drive. He was right, we were glad to stop at a motel until the morning. We slowly drove out of the rain, we arrived home at about 5:40pm Monday, all of us were very tired so bath, eat, bed and this holiday was over.

We will be off on other adventures soon.

Goodbye now.

Thank you,

Peter Risby.
